Города Испании с лучшими карнавальными маскарадами

Now pass the latest masquerade winters. Some of them-preserved in the style of the middle ages, but others are very popular. Spain is the European country with the largest number of masquerades, especially the mountain areas in the North-West of the Peninsula.   This year the dates of carnoval 3, 4 and 5 March, although some, especially in Galicia, start earlier.

These are episodes and masks that come back from the past, reminding us of our origins. Most with heads animals (bears, wolves, bulls, horse ...). They must have been any animals of the place (or intermediate beings between gods and humans) that the Church had turned into demons or something Holy. Today, they are still present in these rituals, which basically indicate fertility. Recently, travelers pay more attention to them, perhaps because they come from other countries to explore the local flavor. Iberian mask festivals were organized in Zamora, Leone and Galicia (not forgetting the Portuguese Tras-OS-Montes). Those small villages can be the most interesting. "Peliqueiros" in LAZ is wearing heavy wooden masks with drawings of wild animals that pop whips. They can't talk, and they can't be touched. From February 28 to March 5. "Cicadas" in Verín (similar to "the Hole") go out on the street longer because celebrated Thursday friends and Komarov (from 21 February to 5 March). In Xinzo de Limia (March 1 to 5) do not miss the "screens" jumps. And in Vilariño do Conso - group "roteiros" with a spectacular masks, in addition to Festa do Cabrito (3 and 5 March).
